our mission

Ashley
Ashley was raised by her grandmother on the Lower East Side. She began Urban Dove in her freshman year of high school, working as a Youth Staff member in the HiRisers Program. Over the next four years, Ashley continued the HiRisers Program and also joined the College All-Stars. She worked four summers at the Camp Lenox Project, and in 2006 was Urban Dove's Youth Staff of the Year and was honored at the Evening with the Dove. Upon graduation from high school and the College All-Stars Program, Ashley was awarded the Lehman Brothers High Yield College Scholarship which she used to attend SUNY New Paltz, where she is enjoying her sophomore year.

Lance
Lance began Urban Dove as a camper at Camp Lenox when he was 12 years old. Now a as a college student attending Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), Lance has grown into an important member of the Urban Dove family. Lance lives in Harlem, and was in and out of trouble as a kid. He is a great example of the power of Urban Dove, as he has made the transition from camper to counselor and now works as a site assistant in the HiRisers Program. Lance wants to be a lawyer and he feels the communication, leadership and job skills learned through his experience at Urban Dove will help him to reach his goals.

Kim
Kim, an alumnus from the first year of the College All-Star’s program, has many things to be proud of as he finishes his sophomore year at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Kim holds a 3.2 GPA and remains an annual recipient of the Robert and Anita Marino Scholarship. Kim is an active student, joining Student Government, Karate Club, and serves on the executive board for the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. In addition to school, Kim holds a part-time job and volunteers for Urban Dove’s Camp Lenox during the summer.

Kim admits to starting Urban Dove as a quiet, low-key high school student but is proud to have grown into an outgoing and confident college student. Reflecting on his Urban Dove experience, Kim says, “I learned how to network, have compassion for others and make difficult choices” and “I seriously would not be in college and if I wasn’t part of the Urban Dove family."
